Press Release:
The Register’s Annual Great Bike Ride Across Iowa (RAGBRAI) was a big hit for the 28-member “Team Kick Butts” riders last week as they peddled their way through corn and bean fields with thousands of other riders. Northwest Tobacco Free Coalition Coordinator, Cheryl Buntsma and coalition members organized the team along with the several riders from last year’s American Cancer Society Team.

“We personally met hundreds of people, while riding and provided them with information regarding the Northwest Iowa Tobacco Free Coalition, Campaign For Tobacco Free Kids, Quitline Iowa, JEL and ACS information, as well as congratulate them on being tobacco free or encouraging them to be tobacco free,” Buntsma said.

“I can’t think of a better statewide street marketing event in Iowa that impacts so many communities and individuals from all generations in one week than RAGBRAI. In addition, met many riders from other states who now are aware of our efforts here in Iowa.”

While on the ride “Team Kick Butts” received many compliments on the team jerseys which began many a conversation. “Our team members handed out hundreds of team stickers and chewing gum as a way to promoting smoke free air and tobacco use prevention. All in all, it was a very positive experience and you can look for our team to be ready to “Kick Butts” again next year!”
